Phlebectomy involves the removal of large, bulging surface veins through tiny needle punctures. It is typically done after the EVLA (endovenous laser ablation) procedure.
First, the surface vein is marked with a surgical pen, both while you are standing and also when you are laying down. Next, numbing fluid is placed around the vein using ultrasound guidance. Then, small needle punctures are made along the vein. The punctures are so small that sutures are not needed. Using a special instrument that is inserted into the punctures, the vein is gently pulled out in small segments.
Due to the fact that the vein was initially numbed, you will not feel any of this. Finally, a wrap and compression stocking is placed on the leg. You will then walk on our clinic treadmill for 15 minutes.
